Do your part to help cure childhood cancer.
Volvo is the founding sponsor of Alex’s Lemonade Stand, started by a little girl names Alex Scott who, even though she was losing her battle against cancer, wanted to raise research money to help other kids win theirs.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is a cause that’s very near to our hearts at Volvo America and Jack Ingram Volvo. The organization was started in memory of a brave 5-year old names Alex Scott, who started a lemonade stand to battle neuroblastoma. As she was losing her fight to cancer she was raising money and making it her mission to help other kids with cancer win the fight.
Alex was nominated for the inaugural Volvo For Life Award. The award honors hometown heroes who are doing extraordinary things in their communities. And Alex, who started lemonade stands in her town to raise $45,000 for pediatric cancer research, couldn’t be a better example of that. In 2003 she won the award.
Following her example, thousands of lemonade stands and other fundraising events began popping up around the country, all to benefit what came to be known as Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Sadly, Alex passed away in 2004, but with the help of multiple supporters including Volvo, her foundation surpassed its goal of raising $1 million.
September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Jack Ingram Volvo would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness with Volvo about the foundation on the national and local level.
Even as she was losing her own battle against cancer, a brave little girls wanted to do something to help other children like her. Thanks to her, we’re closer to a cure. With your help, one day we’ll put her lemonade stand out of business once and for all.
